1. What’s your name, and where are you from?
My name is Ryan Cook @ryanwayyydope and I’m from Miami, FL.
2. How long have you been collecting?
I’ve been collecting since 15 years.
3. What inspired you to start collecting?
I played basketball when I was a kid and grew up watching Jordan like most kids my age and everybody wanted to be like Mike lol.
4. What’s your favorite pair of sneakers that you own, and why?
Hmmm…My favorite pair of sneakers I own…Well…I have 2. I would have to say the Royal 1’s and Chicago 1’s. I super into OG colorways so I definitely try to collect as many as I can. Currently, Royals are the only pair I have 2 of….1 worn and the other DS. I STILL haven’t worn my Chi 1’s. Every time I want to…I can’t bring myself to do it because I don’t have another pair. So if you know someone out there throwing oops in a size 12…tell em hit my line lol.
5. What grail pair don’t you have and would love to add to your collection?
So my grail of grails, which is going to sound cliche, would be Red Octobers. Growing up seeing some of the most coveted sneakers only worn by the people who “had it” kind of created the facade those are the only kind of people who will ever own that kind of grail. If you was to tell me as a kid one day my collection would look the way it looks today, I would have never believed you. I am still not where I want to be but I get close with each release. I owe a lot of my success to all my people in Laced….some of the best people I’ve ever known. Shoutout LACED!
6. What are your likes and/or dislikes about sneakerhead culture?
What I love about the sneaker culture is the connection it has to more than just sneakers. We live in a world of racism…and that will never change, but just from looking at someone’s feet you already can tell a little about the person they are because they have a story to tell. It’s extremely humbling and awesome to know to a sneakerhead…the only color that matters is what’s on your feet and not your skin. What I hate about the sneaker culture is how limited the locations are for releases. I understand the market or whatever, but there are sneakerheads ALL OVER THE WORLD! And some of us just can’t drop everything to fly out to Cali or NY or Florida. Drops should be in more cities and I think we all hate SNKRS APP. I think for those limited drops all the other big name sneaker dealers should do a draw like SNKRS so we don’t have to wait for Nike to give us our L. We can get it from other places too lol. I personally have something in the works for this VERY THING so be on the lookout for me. This won’t be the last time you here my name, I can promise you that 😉
7. Is there anything you’d like to see more of in the sneakerhead community?
I would love to see more events for sneakerheads. I know we have SneakerCon, but there should be more for us. Sneakerheads have been heavy since the 80s and the culture continues to grow. They finally got around to making a special about us on Netflix and I’m sure everyone of us have seen it. It’s a subculture so I think a parade or some kind of frequent event should happen where all kinds of designers, celebrities, etc. should come out. All the proceeds should go to some charitable event we could choose when we buy our tickets.
8. All “kicks” aside, what are your interests/passions/hobbies outside of sneakers?
All kicks aside? ….Is that even a thing? Lol. My hobbies are pretty centric around sneakers. I listen to a lot of Hip-Hop, but I also do photography, graphics, and graphic design. I’m also one of the designers for Urban Fresh brand. Check me out sometime IG – @ryanswayyydope and @urbanfresh.us
Real quick I just want to give a big thank you to Nation Of Soles for the interview. I honored you guys wanted to get to know me. Love.
